San Marzano tomatoes are grown in the volcanic soil of Agro Sarnese-Nocerino, between Naples and Salerno. Recognized for their unique quality, they have been awarded the EU’s Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. Our deliciously juicy San Marzanos boast a rich red color and a dense texture, preserved in a velvety sauce to lock in their freshness.

THEIR UNIQUE TRAITS

Volcanic soil, rich flavors: a culinary treasure

San Marzano tomatoes originate from the nutirent-rich volcanic soil at the base of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. This unique environment enhances their flavor, infusing them with distinct mineral notes, natural sweetness, and a subtle smoky undertone. These qualities give them their signature rich, full-bodied taste, making them a prized ingredient in culinary traditions worldwide.

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

The tomatoes are gently steam-peeled to remove their skin before being transferred into a smooth, velvety sauce and canned to preserve their freshness and rich flavor.

Sustainability

For us, sustainability means respect for the land

Cooperation with WWF

Mutti has worked closely with the WWF in Italy to help farmers find sustainable ways to reduce their water consumption and CO2 emissions. The Italian WWF not only set goals, but it also allowed farmers to analyze and review data to identify what they can do. For example, the organization recommended the use of special sensors that recognize the moisture content of the soil and provide useful information to support efficient water use. Mutti invested in technology, education, and technical support for farmers and agricultural organizations. Even after our five year project came to an end, we are still as committed as ever to minimizing our environmental impact and improving every step of our production.
